Terrestrials

Every once and awhile it's nice to be able to tie on bigger tippet and fish with big bugs.  I would suggest fishing these patterns near stretches that have overhanging brush and trees.  You can catch all sizes of fish using these patterns so be prepared for anything.  All of the below can be fished on the surface or just under it.  Because fish are accustomed to finding these near the surface, it is not necessary to weight these down to the bottom as you would a nymph or midge larvae pattern.  As for the hopper, my personal favorite, you'll have more success sticking close to shorelines and undercut banks.  Try casting past the water line and bounce it back into the water as if it accidentally found its way into the river and you may find that hoppers can draw explosive strikes from big trout.  For the most part, these are quickly tied with basic tying materials; the only exception being the hopper patterns which can be tricky.
